Momenteel wordt ongeveer 85% van het globale Bruto Binnenlands Product gegenereerd via steden. Plastics behoren tot de meest gebruikte producten in onze maatschappij en hebben een grote impact op het milieu, waaronder op het klimaat en de natuurlijke omgeving (plasticsoep en microplastics). In de EU wordt gemiddeld slechts 30% van het plastic afval gerecycleerd. Door meer plastics te recycleren, kunnen we emissies vermijden. Daarom wil de EU het recyclagepercentage tegen 2025 tot 55% verhogen. <br><br>Bij de recyclage van plastic gaat er niet genoeg aandacht naar post-consumer niet-huishoudelijk (PC NH) plastic afval (afkomstig van bedrijven). Aangezien de samenstelling van die plastics algemeen bekend is en verontreinigingen zo goed als onbestaande zijn, zou recyclage gemakkelijk moeten zijn. Met het PlastiCity project hebben we getracht het recyclagepercentage van PC NH plastic afval in vier stedelijke pilootzone\u2019s te verhogen door een stedelijk platform te cre\u00ebren, samen te werken aan innovatieve logistieke oplossingen voor ophaling en bepalen van afvalstromen en kwaliteit door het inzetten van een Mobiele hub. Door de realisatie van de businesscase van gerecycleerde plastic producten beoogden we de ontwikkeling van nieuwe (lokale) waardeketens.<br><br>We hebben uit dit project geleerd dat door samen te werken met partners in de plastic waardeketen een doeltreffende logistiek, bv. frequente en collectieve deur-aan-deur ophaling (milk-run) en\/of retourlogistiek in combinatie met cross-docking, kan worden gerealiseerd om plastic op een centrale locatie te bundelen. Vanuit die locatie kan men de plastics in de bestaande recyclingketen onderbrengen, ter plaatse recycleren en gebruiken om nieuwe producten te ontwerpen en te fabriceren op basis van gerecycleerde plastics. We hebben ook geleerd dat het project een impact had op andere beleidsgebieden, zoals klimaatverandering, luchtkwaliteit en filevorming.<br><br>Deze en andere inzichten hebben we gebruikt om dit handboek op te stellen. Dit handboek bevat richtlijnen voor lokale of regionale overheidsinstanties om een circulair netwerk te cre\u00ebren met spelers uit de lokale plastic waardeketen om nieuwe waardeketens te ontwikkelen voor post-consumer niet-huishoudelijk (PC NH) plastic afval in een stedelijke omgeving.<br><br>Het handboek is opgesteld door de consortiumpartners van het Interreg 2 Zee\u00ebn-project \u201cPlastiCity\u201d.
